New developing health symptoms Any form of water damage will result in biological amplification within 48
hours of materials such as plasterboard, carpet and wallpaper being wet.
The
biological amplification is a match between the bacteria and mould spores
always present and the warm moist environment.
Invariably drying is
seen as the major issue but the biological growth is usually ignored by
contractors and their usual response is to spray with a biocide.
From
papers seen in our Health hazard section you will notice biocides and bleach
wont kill or neutralise mould but will create the greater health
hazard from inhalation of dead mould and their fragments.
If you have
had mould removed by contractors, they should according to BS 12999 and
British Standards PAS
64 provide a verified clearance certificate which confirms the air
is clean and the property has been decontaminated and is of course dry.
If
you haven't got a meaningful and verified certificate your home may be
devalued and you may be exposed to toxic and allergenic airborne
contamination for years to come.
If you have developed health issues
since living in a mouldy home and or since a water damage event such as
water escape, or flooding you should consider a possible link with mould and
other associated contaminates.
